The sheave's groove must also perfectly match the conductor's diameter to prevent slippage and scuffing. Nylon and durable polymer-lined sheaves are excellent choices for their smooth surfaces, which reduce friction and protect the conductor's outer layer. Larger sheave diameters are especially important for stringing advanced conductors or those with a delicate fiber-optic core (OPGW).
